Frequently Asked Questions
  • Each plant type included in the final design is underlined, every single one. We want you to have a very good idea of the project you are about to invest in and what plants you can expect to be included, and intrigued enough to make a purchase. All the plants included are also pictured in the photo collage.

  • Several options actually:

    1. Replace the plants in the design with a different closely related variety your local nursery does carry. Sure, the look and possibly the taste will be different, but something is better than nothing.

    2. Try mail order and online options for available choices. See Resource page for some favorite companies, just a handful of available options, and super important information when selecting plants to be consumed.

    3. If it’s early enough in the season, think about starting the plants from seed yourself. Challenging and possibly frustrating in the beginning, but practice makes perfect and sooooo rewarding when your babies thrive.

    4. For a long term plan (and better health of the environment and us too), ask your nursery to start carrying a bigger variety of plants. Support that amazing local nursery as well, so they can stay in business and supply you with amazing healthy plants for years to come.

  • No worries, shoot us an email with your preferred plants/ colors and we will reach out to you as soon as we can. Please include all relevant information like zone, water lever, sun exposure and size of design, and we will go from there.

  • Things to consider on a patio, and especially the balcony, is the size and the weight. Each design has a stated diameter or width and length, what is not stated is the height. That will depend on a few different factors:

    • plants in the design: root vegetables like potatoes, carrots, beets, radishes and the like will need more soil depth to thrive and properly grow. Surface plants like tomatoes, peppers and flowers might not need as much depth.

    • the bigger the planter the more it will weight once fully planted and watered thoroughly. If your balcony is cantilevered reach out to your landlord for weight restrictions. The planter manufacturer will have information on weight of their products.

    • if the design includes perennial plants and the planter is smaller to medium sized, they might not survive the winter outdoors. Bring the container indoors, even a garage will work, or insulate the planter for the winter and water occasionally so the roots don’t dry out completely.

    • your design style, the space and sight lines. We always recommend marking off the area with masking tape and marking the height too. Things have a way of being bigger then we actually think. Want a shallower planter: skip the root vegetables and water more often.
